POST-DOCTORATE IN PHILOSOPHY (D. Litt)
- Admission Criteria (Basic Requirements) for Post-Doctorate Research Degree
- The candidate should have a doctorate in philosophy, earned within the last fifteen years.
- A published doctoral dissertation, a copy of which is to be submitted along with the application.
- Preferably two years of teaching, or professional experience.
- A research project in the area of specialization prepared in consultation with the prospective Academic Mentor from the Faculty of Philosophy at DVK. It shall be prepared in the prescribed methodology and shall have 1,000 to 2,000 words; it shall also include the basic motivation for undertaking a post-doctorate research.
- A letter of recommendation from the respective higher authority (Bishop/Major Superior/Head of the Institution), in the case of religious or clerics.
- Two confidential academic references.
- Curriculum Vitae (to accompany the Application Form).
- Duration of the Programme: Minimum 1 Year, with at least one semester on-campus.
- Responsible Person in the Faculty: Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy
- Name of the Post-Doctoral Research Degree: Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) in Philosophy.
- Requirements to be fulfilled during the Post-Doctoral Programme
- It is a One Year Programme with at least one semester spent on the DVK Campus.
- Maximum period for the completion of the Post-Doctoral Programme: Two Years (This includes, if needed, a One-Year extension approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, in consultation with the Board of Postgraduate Studies).
- To successfully complete the Post-Doctoral Programme, a candidate has to take courses worth sixty (60) credits.
- A candidate shall carry out the research under the direction of an Associate Professor or higher-graded Academic Mentor, who shall be appointed by the Dean, in consultation with the Board of Postgraduate Studies.
- A candidate shall offer at least one seminar or teach a course, with the permission of the Dean of the Faculty and under the guidance of the Academic Mentor.
- A candidate shall prepare a thesis (around 50,000 words) under the guidance of the Academic Mentor approved by the Dean in consultation with the BPS.
- The candidate shall offer a public lecture at the completion of the post-doctoral research; this public lecture and discussion (details of which will be laid down by the BPS) shall be evaluated by a team of three experts, of which at least one shall be a staff member of the Faculty of Philosophy; the session shall be chaired by Dean or his representative.
- In order to award the Post-Doctoral Research Degree, the candidate should have a cumulative minimum of first class (60%) in the evaluation of written thesis: 70; public lecture: 20; other components of the programme: 10.
- For the completion of the post-doctoral research, the candidate shall publish at least one scientific book or two scientific articles.
Publication of the output of the research in the form of a book shall be made under a series of publications from Dharmaram Publications, namely, “Dharmaram Post-Doctoral Research Series.”
