In June 1992, Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, in response to the repeated requests from Bishops and major Superiors of religious Institutes in India, stared a systematic diploma programme of one full academic year (two semesters) with a rich academic and practical course of study for the benefit of the formation personnel of various religious congregations and dioceses. The purpose of the programme is to prepare competent formators who could foster growth and wholeness in themselves as well as in the youth entrusted to their care. The Congregation for Catholic Education in accord with the statutes of DVK approved the Master of Arts in Formative Spirituality and Counselling on 12th December 2003, thus authorizing the Faculty of Theology at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram to grant the MA in Formative Spirituality and Counselling to those who successfully complete the course.
The Congregation for Catholic Education in its letter of promulgation dated 12 December 2003 (Prot.N.946/2000/21-727/79)says that they commend the course for its proper blend of culture and faith, between spirituality and psychology, and between academic and practical aspects of the programme of study. In 2010, the Congregation for Catholic Education approved the revised curriculum of MA in Formative Spirituality and Counselling of Vinyasadhana and granted permission to confer Licentiate (LTh) in Formative Spirituality and Counselling to those who are eligible for the degree (Prof. N.946/2000). The eligible candidates also get a UGC recognized MA from Christ University, Bangalore.
